Egg Drop Challenge-Iteration #1

I didnt take an actual picture but that is a sketch of what Gustavo and I dropped.

Total # of achievments earned-19 (not including points for setting up the drop zone or coming up with ideas for next years class which would give us 21)

Redesign-
Parachute-get rid of the parachute because it didnt slow enough to stop fall but created enough drag to throw off target.
More Cottenballs-since we were over the 50g mark add enough cotten balls and tape to get it just below the mark



Joe's design-
-weight-Joe's design only weighed 19g making it max out on the weight achievments which is ideal for maximum achievments.
-egg survival-the pull noodle and the parachute worked wellt together which kept the egg alive while not having a load of weight.

TED video

grade increase since students started using the online system at a school in the U.S.


1) What is the TED organization about?
The TED organization  is a small non-profit organization devoted to spreading worthy ideas. They have videos on everything.

2) What is the purpose of their website and how does the functionality of their site support that?
The purpose of the webiste is to spread and support ideas through video.

3) As Engineers and Problem Solvers, which topic areas (the choices from the "Show talks related to:" section on the sidebar) are of most interest to us? Justify your answer.
The topics that most interest me are the ones that are about education because that is the kind of life i am in now.

4) Based on your previous answer, what are 3 talks (videos) on the site that appear like they would be of most interest to you as an Engineer/Problem Solver? Justify your choices.
Based on my videos salman khan: lets use video to reinvent education, Arthur Benjamin's formula for changing math education, and Michelle Obama plea for education. I picked these because they were all about education and as i explained I want to learn about education because i am still in school.

5) Each student will watch a unique video. Claim your video on the following period specific posts: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th. If no one else has claimed your video there yet, leave a comment on that post to call the one you want. If someone else has already claimed the talk, go back and pick another one. Watch the video. Create and post a bulletized outline of the key issues presented in the talk.
  • Online Education is a way to revalutionize education by students rewatching and learning at their own pace.
  • kids are learning better and are getting better grades.
  • Really easy to use because its just on youtube and on the TED site.  

6) How could you get involved in the field/technology/issue you chose to hear about? What experience/skills/training/education would you need to learn to get involved with this field?

To get involved i would become a teacher. Go to college and get a teaching degree and use the online education system to teach my students.

RoboPro variables and subprogramming


In this activity we used RoboPro. We learned about subprograms and meters and created our own program using RoboPro.

We benifit from using subprograms because it clears ups space and allows people using subprograms to have multiple programs running. Its a really good way to organize work with RoboPro.

Machine Control Design


Me, Andoni and Gustavo did a Robo Pro in conjuction with the motors and tx controllers. Our machine had a red stick go back and forth by hitting switches which was our goal. We didnt get to the point where we connected the switches because of time issues.

The problem we chose to tackle was to turn a light on with an automatic switch but we failed as explained earlier.

3.1.4 Branch Functions

Today, Wednesday, we used ROBO PRo once again. Today we started working with switches and it actually became a little harder. We got it under control and were able to do it. Here is our picture of a light with a potentiometer. When you turn the potentiometer, the light will turn on. Pretty cool stuff.

My team consisted of Ryan, Nick, and I. Although we used the software on my computer, we all helped to built the module and take pictures. I think all of us made an even contribution.

-----It is important to include branches in your program because if you want to be able to turn things on and off, you need to have switches and branches in your program.

2. Describe an everyday application of a normally open switch that has not been given as an example.
 ----An everyday application of an open switch is a railroad switch. When you turn the switch it changes to a different track.

3. Describe an everyday application of a normally closed switch that has not been given as an example.
------A normally closed switch would be a faucet. When you open the faucet the water will flow.
